What is Temporary Car Insurance?

With car insurance premiums on the rise, new ideas on how to lower
the cost have now become a priority for those insurance agents who
have clients who can’t afford the premiums. Fully comprehensive
cover is very difficult for many customers to afford.
With these new ideas comes the offering of temporary cover. This
type of cover used to only be available if you were to borrow a
friend’s car for just a short length of time. However, times have
changed and the mass market is able to purchase temporary cover.
This reduces the cost allowing the insured to be covered for the
period of time in which they plan on using the vehicle.
The insured period of time could be anywhere from 1 day or more and
you are able to renew it at any time. A good example of needing
temporary insurance is if you were to work out of town for long
periods of time and you choose not to use your own car. It wouldn’t
be wise to purchase a full year’s insurance premium. Save the money,
since you’ll probably be renting a car most of the time anyway and
purchase temporary insurance. You still get the same cover for less
money.
Temporary insurance isn’t really a new thing. It’s actually been
around for quite awhile. However, the way it’s used has changed
somewhat. Temporary insurance allows people to save an incredible
amount of money, plus there’s no need to pay higher rates on a car
you don’t use that much.
This type of insurance will be needed at one time or another by
everyone. People use vehicles they don’t own that they borrow from a
friend or that they rent. Here are some examples of what temporary
insurance may be needed for:
• Day cover for temporary drivers in an emergency
• Temporary use if driving another car, borrowing from a friend or
renting a car for a weekend or holiday
• Test driving a new car at a dealership and needing cover for a day
• Having your car serviced and driving a dealer’s car
• Expats in the UK who plan on borrowing a friend or family members
car
When you think about it, eventually temporary insurance was bound to
grow into something more, especially in today’s economy. The one
thing about the car insurance industry in the UK is that if one
company leads the charge in lowering the cost of insurance, it
doesn’t take long for the rest to follow.
Having temporary insurance allows you flexibility for cover when you
need it. It’s simple and economical. You’ll have complete cover and
peace of mind. You can find insurance companies online or in your
area that can give you a fast quote on your vehicle and give you a
policy that meets your specific needs. It’s time to take control and
save yourself some money.
